Fort Hancock is part of the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area. On the entire peninsula of Sandy Hook, there are approximately 300 structures reflecting Light House Board, Lifesaving Service, and United States Army activity from 1764 through the 1970s. These structures are of varying levels of historic and architectural significance. This Historic Structure Assessment Report surveys the NCO Quarters (Bldg. 66) at Fort Hancock, providing photographs, floor plans, statements of deficiency, and preservation recommendations. The NCO Quarters was built in 1908 and intended to provide quarters on post for two more Civil Service employees and their families. The historic appearance of this building has been greatly altered.
