Fort Hancock is part of the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area. On the entire peninsula of Sandy Hook, there are approximately 300 structures reflecting Light House Board, Lifesaving Service, and United States Army activity from 1764 through the 1970s. These structures are of varying levels of historic and architectural significance. This Historic Structure Assessment Report surveys the NCO Quarters, Duplex (Bldg. 52) at Fort Hancock, providing photographs, floor plans, statements of deficiency, and preservation recommendations. Building #52 is the 3rd identical duplex NCO quarters to be built at Ft. Hancock. Construction was completed in 1905 and in the summer of that year all NCO Quarters were provided with screens due to the "savage New Jersey mosquitoes."
