This Historic Structure Report concerns the Sutro Heights Park historic public park in Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Sutro Heights Park, the former seaside estate of millionaire philanthropist, bibliophile, and populist. Mayor of San Francisco, Adolph Joseph Heinrich Sutro, has been a continual location for public recreation since 1885. A popular attraction of the last century, Sutro Heights offers rare and excellent views of the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate, and the Seal Rocks. Unfortunately, Sutro Heights has suffered from natural deterioration and vandalism during this century. This report was written soon after Sutro Heights incorporation into the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It surveys the history of twenty-six individual structures and features and gives recommendations for their future preservation and interpretation.
