Harpers Ferry National Historical Park preserves historic resources and commemorates the historic events that occurred at and around Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The park consists of portions of the Lower Town, the former Storer College campus, landscapes associated with the national historical park’s Civil War significance, and lands preserving the historic viewshed down the Potomac River. This Historic Structure Report (HSR) for Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Buildings 16 and 16a, known historically as the Roeder House and Annex, was produced from research performed by multiple National Park Service units. Building 16 will serve as interpretive space, based on Frederick A. Roeder's residence and bakery/confectionery as used during the period 1847-1865. It will contain a historically furnished interior appropriate to mid 19th century Harpers Ferry and the Park's interpretive themes. Interpretation is confined primarily to the first floor rooms although an option of using one of he basement level rooms has come forward. At present, the first floor of the building is furnished solely as Roeder's residence. There is no other interpretive use of the building for exhibits.
