This report concerns the Two-Story Barn (HB-3) at Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site. The following observations were initially made: 1. the west wall of the two story portion of the storeroom has deflected outward as much as 1', basically in the center and upper portions; 2. the north wall of the two story portion of the storeroom has a large crack vertically and has also deflected outward; 3. the wall between the main barn and the two story portion of the storeroom has deflected outward adjacent to the door into the main barn; 4. the upper portion of the east wall of the main barn has deflected inward approximately 8 inches; 5. a shifting of the primary structural members at the roof level has occurred with the shift resulting in the north south girders at the west third point of the roof being pulled to the east about 8 inches; 6. a shifting of the entire primary structure has occurred to the north with as much as a 6 inch separation between the blacksmith shop and the main barn loft; and deterioration of secondary framing at roof level and left floor has occurred. This report also proposes methods for structural restoration and damage prevention.
