One of eight presentations about historic preservation in Horse Cave, Kentucky developed for fourth graders. This presentation describes the contributions and legacy of African Americans in Horse Cave, from Steven Bishop, the cave guide that drew the earliest known map of Mammoth Cave to Newton Thomas, a teacher and principal first at the Horse Cave Colored School and then at the Caverna Independent High School where he became the first black teacher in an integrated school in Kentucky to Clarence Glover, a former NBA player who played first at the Horse Cave Colored School and then at the Caverna Independent High School. This project was sponsored by the Horse Cave Architectural Board, City of Horse Cave with a grant from the Kentucky Heritage Council. Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Kentucky Heritage Council, administered by the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number P17AF00104).
