The theme study, "Labor History in the United States," includes historic context essays on agricultural labor, extractive labor, sites of conflict in manufacturing, transportation labor, and service workers from the colonial era through the 1980s, with greater focus on the period between roughly 1840 and 1970. Registration guidelines for evaluating potential NHLs and an inventory of properties identified as nationally significant in labor history are included. This study updates and revises the "American Labor History Theme Study," originally published in 2003 (see https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2193280).
