Peregrine falcon season report 2011

This is a summary report for the 2011 peregrine falcon nesting season. There is discussion on how the long drawn out winter with reportedly cold, overcast, and foggy spring inhibited or made nearly impossible the peregrine observations early on. It was noted that peregrine falcons failed to successfully nest at the Precipice this year despite evidence of nesting behaviors by a pair thought to be breeding. There was behavior interactions noted with a third individual peregrine at that location. It is noted that, “Unfortunately, peregrine nesting territories across Acadia suffered the same unsuccessful fate.” There were nesting behaviors noted at Valley Cove and Beech Cliff, but neither location yielded active nests. Jordan Cliffs had a juvenile that failed to recruit a mate and no nesting occurred. It is noted that the only other year the entire park had complete nesting failure was in 2007, and that was thought to have been weather related as well.
