Fort Hancock is part of the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area. On the entire peninsula of Sandy Hook, there are approximately 300 structures reflecting Light House Board, Lifesaving Service, and United States Army activity from 1764 through the 1970s. These structures are of varying levels of historic and architectural significance. This Historic Structure Assessment Report surveys the Officer's Quarters (Bldg. 3) at Fort Hancock, providing photographs, floor plans, statements of deficiency, and preservation recommendations. The building was designed as a single family residence for a lieutenant and his family. It is one of eighteen basically identical 2-1/2 story L-shaped buff-color brick quarters which constitute Officers' Row (Bldg. 1-18). It was built in the Georgian style, 1897-98.
