Summary: "Markosky undertook a reconnaissance level survey of previously undocumented historic resources that are 45 years old or older within Doddridge County from June 8th-June 10th. The survey is the fifth installment of the multi-county project, the Historic Resources Survey of Tyler, Richie, Gilmer, Braxton, and Doddridge Counties, and it was conducted on behalf of the WV SHPO. The survey resulted in the identification of 151 newly recorded historic resources. The county seat of West Union and incorporated communities were excluded from the survey in favor of compiling a collection of newly surveyed resources that characterizes the rural, hilly, and heavily wooded areas in Doddridge County that lie outside of these centers. Of the 151 historic resources surveyed, 125 or 83% were residential buildings. The majority of resources - 102 or 68% - date from the 20th century. Among the most commonly seen building styles were Classical Revival and Folk Victorian residences." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund Grant to the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office, Department of Arts, Culture, and History, administered by the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number P20AF00057).
