Summary: "Markosky undertook a reconnaissance level survey of previously undocumented historic resources that are 45 years or older within Gilmer County from November 30th to December 5th. The survey is the third installment of the multi-county project, the Historic Resources Survey of Tyler, Ritchie, Gilmer, Braxton, and Doddridge Counties, and it was conducted on behalf of the WV SHPO. The survey resulted in the identification of 150 newly recorded historic resources: GL-0279 through GL-0425, as well as cemeteries 46GL91, 46GL92, and 46GL93. The county seat of Glenville and incorporated communities were excluded from the survey in favor of compiling a collection of newly surveyed resources that characterizes the rural, hilly, and heavily wooded areas of Gilmer County that lie outside of these centers. Of the 150 historic resources surveyed, 120 or 80% were houses or farmhouses. The vast majority of resources - 134 or 89% - date from the 20th century. Among the most commonly seen building types were bungalows, ranches, and side gable cottages."
