Acadia National Park transportation data collection: Traffic volumes
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc.. 2014. To: National Park Service, Northeast Region. Re: Acadia National Park transportation data collection: Traffic volumes
From the memorandum: "A summary of the hourly counts is provided in Tables 1 and 2, on the following page. Some general observations are as follows. - Traffic counts are lower on the Wednesday due to there being rain in the morning. Weather on the other days was generally sunny and warm, with late afternoon showers on Thursday and Friday. - The two‐way volume of traffic on Lower Mountain Road (average of 312 per hour) was higher than traffic volumes on the one‐way section of the Park Loop Road (average of 278 per hour). - Traffic volumes were relatively consistent from day to day. Weekdays tended to be slightly busier than weekend days. - Large vehicles, the majority of which were buses, make up about two percent of the traffic flow. There was an average of 6 to 10 per hour on each road. - There was an average of 9 to 26 bicycles per hour on the roads, accounting for about four percent of the traffic flow. Bicycle activity can be heaviest in the early morning so the counts from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm may not reflect the peak hourly bicycle volumes of the day."
