Ponderosa pine ecosystem restoration in the Mt. Trumbull area. Initiated in 1995 between the Bureau of Land Management and Northern Arizona University, the project seeks to experimentally manipulate southwestern ponderosa pine ecosystems to restore the forest to a pre-European settlement state. Techniques include fire, thinning and seeding. Areas of focus include trees, understory plants, snags, birds, deer, turkey, and amphibians. Other ecosystems of interest include the nearby pinyon-juniper woodlands. The project is centered at Mt. Trumbull but also includes Mt. Logan and Death Valley.
